Shopify's Fall '26 Edition landed this week under the name "Exponential". As usual, it's a long list, covering AI shopping, the admin, checkout, marketing, shipping and payments.
Most of the headlines are about AI agents. They matter, but they're not what will make the biggest difference to a UK store between now and Christmas. So we've gone through the whole list and picked out what's worth your time in the next few weeks, plus what to start preparing for next year.
1. Rollouts: run your Black Friday sale as one launch
This is the update we're most pleased about. Rollouts let you put theme changes, checkout settings, product catalogues and discounts together into one scheduled launch, or into an A/B test.
You can schedule price changes and product publishing, roll them out across your markets, then have prices roll back automatically when the promotion ends. Anyone who has stayed up until midnight on Black Friday to switch a sale on, then got up early on Tuesday to switch it off again, will see why that's useful.
Try it: build your Black Friday sale as a rollout now and preview it, rather than editing the live store on the day.
2. AI shopping: your product data is your shop window
Shopify is pushing hard on "agentic commerce", where shoppers ask an AI assistant to find and buy something for them. Shopify products can be discovered in AI channels such as ChatGPT and Claude, Shop Pay is being added to more AI agents, and businesses can sell in Google Search (including AI Mode) and the Gemini app, with checkout powered by Shopify. Check the help docs for which features are live in the UK, because several start in the US first.
Two practical updates came with it. You can now see whether your store is eligible for Shopify Catalog (the product feed that AI agents draw from) and what to change to qualify. Your compare-at prices are also passed to AI agents automatically, so they can show when something is on sale.
Here's our view. An AI agent can only recommend what it understands. If your product titles are vague, your descriptions are thin and your delivery and returns policies are hard to find, the agent will recommend a competitor whose data is clearer. This is the same clean-up that helps your SEO and Google Shopping feed, so it's not wasted effort even if AI shopping takes a while to take off.
3. A new admin and a smarter Sidekick
The Shopify admin is getting a full refresh, with cleaner navigation and Sidekick (Shopify's AI assistant) available from every page. Sidekick can now plan several changes, let you approve them once and apply them together. Canvas is a new editing experience that lets you design your online store in one view, with Sidekick built in.
It's genuinely useful for repetitive jobs. Just remember that Sidekick does what you ask, not necessarily what's right for your brand, conversion rate or SEO. Check its work before you publish, especially on product copy.
4. Made for UK stores
A few updates are specifically for UK businesses:
DHL Express labels in the admin. UK businesses can now buy DHL Express labels in Shopify, which is handy if you ship internationally.
Royal Mail pickup locations. You can let customers have orders delivered to a convenient Royal Mail pickup point, so fewer parcels go back to the depot.
Shop Campaigns in the UK. Shop Campaigns now runs in over 35 new markets, including the UK. You only pay when an ad drives a sale.
POS receipts. A customisable receipt template automatically adds UK tax summaries.
5. WhatsApp cart recovery
You can now collect WhatsApp marketing consent at checkout, then send automated WhatsApp messages from the Shopify Messaging app to recover abandoned browses, carts and checkouts. Shopify Messaging also has a pre-built Black Friday email campaign you can preview, edit and schedule.
Start collecting consent now, even if you don't plan to send anything until January. Consent takes time to build up.
6. Fewer chargeback headaches
Shopify Payments now writes an AI-generated response to every chargeback, tailored to the customer's bank and the reason code. Carrier proof of delivery is attached automatically when a customer says their order didn't arrive. After the Christmas rush, that could save hours of admin.
Your to-do list before Black Friday
Set up your Black Friday sale as one scheduled rollout, with automatic roll-back.
Check your Shopify Catalog eligibility and fix whatever's holding you back.
Tidy your product titles, descriptions and policies so AI agents (and Google) understand them.
Turn on WhatsApp consent at checkout and set up cart recovery.
Offer Royal Mail pickup and compare DHL Express rates for international orders.
Use the new AI chargeback responses in Shopify Payments when disputes start coming in.
Our take
The AI features will get the headlines, but the practical updates will make the money this Christmas. Rollouts alone could save a stressful weekend. AI shopping is coming either way, and the stores that win there will be the ones with the clearest, most complete product data. Shopify's new tools make that easier, but they don't replace knowing your customers, your margins and your brand.
Most of these features are rolling out gradually, so not everything will appear in your admin straight away.
