Yard Force is a global outdoor power equipment brand, known for innovative garden tools ranging from AI-powered robotic lawnmowers and battery ride-on mowers to cordless handheld tools and pressure washers. Their UK arm needed a direct-to-consumer store that matched the quality and innovation of their product range, one that could handle a technically complex catalogue whilst making it genuinely easy for customers to find, compare and buy the right product.

They came to us to build their UK Shopify store from the ground up, creating a visually-led, product-rich eCommerce experience that could showcase the full Yard Force range and serve as a proper DTC sales channel, not just a product catalogue.

Yard Force's existing UK web presence wasn't built for eCommerce. The site lacked the product discovery, enrichment and purchasing experience that a brand of this calibre needed.

With a diverse product range spanning robotic mowers, ride-on lawnmowers, cordless platforms, pressure washers and a full ecosystem of batteries and spare parts, the challenge wasn't just building a store, it was building one that could handle complexity without overwhelming customers.

Each product category has its own set of technical specifications that customers need to compare: cutting widths, battery voltages, cutting areas, blade heights. A cordless lawnmower buyer has completely different considerations to someone shopping for a pressure washer or a robotic mower.

The store needed to make all of that information accessible and useful, not just present.

On top of that, the brand needed a seamless connection between the store, their customer support infrastructure and their review platform, creating a joined-up experience from product discovery through to post-purchase support.

The Challenge

What we did

Hybrid Theme Build

We selected Shopify's Sleek theme as the foundation, a visually-led theme that lends itself to product-rich, specification-heavy catalogues.

On top of this, we designed and built a bespoke layer of customisation to match the Yard Force brand identity: bold, clean and technically confident. The result is a store that looks and feels premium without sacrificing performance or maintainability.

Product Enrichment & Discovery

Every product in the 79-strong catalogue was enriched with detailed, structured specification data, cutting width, power output, blade heights, cutting area, maximum cutting height and weight…. displayed consistently across all product and collection pages. We built multiple routes into the catalogue: by product type, by battery platform (CR20 20V and 40V ranges), and through dynamic filtering by power, cutting area, cutting width and cutting positions.

Cross-Selling & Spare Parts Ecosystem

For each parent product, customers can see all compatible spare parts, batteries and accessories and navigate between them seamlessly. This "You May Also Need" cross-linking turns individual product pages into entry points for the wider ecosystem, encouraging larger basket sizes.

Product Comparison Tool

A product comparison feature lets customers compare specifications side by side, essential for a range where the differences between models come down to cutting width, battery voltage or garden size suitability.

BazaarVoice Reviews Integration

We integrated BazaarVoice to bring verified customer reviews onto product pages, building trust and providing social proof at the point of purchase.

Subscribe & Save

A subscribe and save programme offering 10% off first orders, creating an incentive to drive newsletter sign-ups and build a direct marketing channel.

Support Portal Integration

Customer support was built into the store from the outset, ticket creation, phone and live chat, alongside warranty registration, order tracking and a structured knowledge base covering every product category.

Content & SEO Strategy

The Yard Force Garden Guide serves as both a customer resource and an SEO asset, with buying guides, seasonal gardening calendars, product spotlights and expert advice, all structured to capture long-tail search traffic.

The Results

90 days post launch:

  • Sales have doubled month on month, with their peak April season seeing an increase of over 600%

  • Conversion rate has doubled

  • Search traffic up 85%

  • Direct Sessions up 24%

  • All Core Web Vitals now rated 'Good'

  • AI visibility emerging - 6 sales via AI which has never happen before for them.

Why this mattered?

For Yard Force, this wasn't about putting products online, they already had that. This was about building a proper direct-to-consumer channel that could do justice to a technically sophisticated product range.

The kind of store where a customer researching robotic mowers can compare models by garden size, read verified reviews, watch product videos, and buy with confidence, all without leaving the site.

The build had to balance two things that often pull in opposite directions: rich, detailed product information and a clean, fast user experience. By investing in structured product data, intelligent cross-linking and a carefully considered information architecture, the store manages to be both deeply informative and genuinely easy to use.

With a growing content engine driving organic traffic, BazaarVoice building social proof, and a subscribe-and-save programme growing the owned audience, YardForce now has the infrastructure to scale their UK DTC operation, not just a store, but a platform for growth.
